My to Be Read Pile

Ahh, the to be read pile. If I actually had a physical copy of every book I have on my to be read pile, I would have to clear out one of the spare bedrooms. Seriously, it’s that big of a pile. I was actually thinking of my reading goals, and of the spare books floating about my house, and my to-read pile on Goodreads, and it’s pretty impressive.

So I signed up for a swap on Swap Bot, dealing with the “to be read” pile. Since it’s an electronic swap and I can put it on a blog, I’m using it at blog fodder. I’m sure people are thrilled with my non stop book and cat posts.

So, while I’m whiling away time before work playing Cookie Clicker, I’ll answer the questions. And hopefully get more cookies.

How do you keep track of your TBR pile?
I’ve taken to letting Goodreads keep track of my pile for me. This isn’t everything, but every book that looks even remotely interesting goes into this shelf. Since all it takes is a click, it’s easy to keep it online. Now, how badly I want to read the books is another story. Keeping it online means that it’s easy to add books I only have a passing interest in, so I’d wager 75% of these are books I’m just not that interested in.

Is your TBR mostly print or ebook?
Mostly ebook. I love print books, don’t get me wrong, but I hate buying books that I know I’m not immediately going to get to, UNLESS they’re non fiction. I have a whole pile of gardening books, and I don’t garden. Why? Because I love the idea, and some day I’m going to actually use the beds in the garden. But as for physical fiction books I haven’t yet read? I can think of maybe 5 or 6.

How do you determine which book from your TBR to read next?
Whatever happens to grab my interest. If I’m in part of a trilogy, series, or something like that, generally I will pick up the next book and read that. I’ve done that quite a bit this year, start with the first book, and continue on until I’m done, or I’m bored, whichever comes first.
I also will pick a book that’s just come out if I’m waiting for it. Richelle Mead released two this year, and Kiara Cass did one that I was waiting for, so I pushed aside my to reads to chew through those books.

A book that’s been in your TBR the longest.
Well, on Goodreads, there’s a couple that share the “added June 26, 2012” slot: Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card, Awakened by PC Cast, and Rubyfruit Jungle by Rita Mae Brown. I mean to read them all, they just get pushed down by more recent, or more interesting books.

A book you recently added to your TBR.
Archivist by Corryn Anderson. I actually added it because I entered a giveaway to get a copy. I didn’t win, but I’m seriously considering picking it up and reading it because I’m just that interested.

A book in your TBR strictly because of its beautiful cover.

Across the Universe - Beth Revis
Across The Universe by Beth Revis. I’ve heard it’s okay, but not great, but that cover is just stunning. It’s hands down one of the most beautiful covers I’ve seen in a long time.

A book in your TBR that you never plan on reading.
The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. I know it was made into a movie, and I was curious about it, but it’s way low on my “to read” priorities.

An unpublished book in your TBR that you’re excited for.
The Ruby Circle by Richelle Mead. It’s the final book in the Bloodlines series, and I can’t wait until it ends.

A book in your TBR that everyone recommends to you.
Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl is one I’ve had recommended quite a few times. I’m curious about it, especially since they did that inventive Pinterest campaign to promote the movie, but it’s lower on the list.

Number of books in your TBR.
Close to 600. Goodreads lists over 550 books in that category for me, and I know there’s more that I just haven’t added. So 600 seems like a good ballpark figure.
